Well the word from the boys is it is RAINY and WET at Pocono! I've managed to get a few updated photos from Adam:

A bit rainy and damp!

Stuck!

$100 investment to not have to walk to bathrooms. But apparently it is just for "sitdowns". Yes that is a quote.

My husband justifying the personal port-a-potty. See those towers? That is where the bathroom is.

Drying the track! Should see some practicing today!

Can't wait to see some CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pocono for the Boys!

Well, dh is off with 3 of his friends to the Pocono 400.

They decided to leave Wednesday night, hoping to get into the infield sometime on Thursday. Rumour is that people LINE UP and sleep in their RVs overnight in line to get in for Friday morning at 5am.

After a week of getting the bus brakes tweaked and replaced, Adam spent 1.5 days polishing the bus wheels-- and they look great!

Departure was about 7:15pm with a few tears from some of the kids. Text message saying across the border at about 10:30 or so. They stopped just north of Binghampton, NY, 100 miles from the track.

So the boys stopped at a rest stop, got up this morning and headed to Walmart for supplies! 5 days in the infield (no in-out priveleges) is going to be a lonnnng time without hookups. Just a generator! Here are some road-trip photos from Adam:

Apparently THIS (Above) was not everything they bought at Walmart. But probably the most important.

And they have ARRIVED!

Looks pretty cozy! Adam has promised to send me more photos as the weekend goes on! So stay tuned....

Lake Placid- May 2013

We have returned after a glorious long weekend (Friday- Tuesday) in Lake Placid, NY.

It was a great drive! There is no real "direct" route, so once we crossed the border near Brockville, ON, it was a scenic drive through upstate New York. Very picturesque (although challenging for the driver of the bus).

We left early and arrived just after lunch to our campground. Our site was HUGE, and there was no one around us. As the weekend progressed, more and more Quebec and Ontario plates arrived!

Arriving at North Pole Campground.
Not a great photo-- moving. Says "Site of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games".

Setting Up.

Getting comfortable!

Once of the campsites. Huge! Cable, wifi, full hookup. $42 a night.

Lake Placid, the village, is very pretty, with "Adirondack" type architecture, and alot of people doing outdoor activities! Tons of cyclists, kayakers and fly fishers.

The weather was fab! Warm and sunny. This was our first trip with our TOAD, the Tracker, and it was awesome! We took the top off and enjoyed.

Friday: arrived, set up, found a grocery store, Toad and I played mini golf, went to games room, bbq dinner and fire.

Even the grocery store was fancy!

He loves a good campfire!

Saturday: drove 8 miles up Whiteface Mountain on the Memorial Highway. Hiked up the stone walkway to the summit! Over 4730 feet above sea level! There is a castle at the top. Then we explored the town a bit more, drove to a Walmart, and ate at Applebee's. Back to the bus for a campfire and s'mores.

Starting up Memorial Highway. That is the summit (way up there!)

The castle at the top-- you drive right through!

Lake Placid!

Toad on his way up to the top!

Looking down on the Memorial Highway.

Snow! It was 10-15 degrees cooler at the summit.

Sunday: We went to Great Gorge Falls. It is a park with 700 feet of waterfalls and hiking trails. Just beautiful! Then we took another drive and saw lovely mountains and trees. We saw the Olympic ski jumps, the bobsled and luge tracks. We returned and went to the games room and park and had a quiet dinner.

Monday: Adam's birthday! After some breakfast, it was raining, so we went into the village and shopped a bit. Then we took a much anticipated trolley ride! For lunch, we drove to Saranac Lake to a smokehouse BBQ place, Very cool and YUM. Toad played on the pirate ship. We then relaxed and had a huge campfire.

So good! We had pulled pork, brisket and corn bread!

This is a chairlift from the 1930 Olympics. Yikes!

Tuesday: Enjoyed my coffee outside in the sun! We packed up fairly quickly, and headed home. Stopped in Trenton for a bite to eat. Arrived home just as the crazy storm was happening.

We loved North Pole Campground. The staff was great, the store had everything you would need, loved the minigolf, games room and pool. It is right on the AuSable River.
Lake Placid is truly for the outdoor enthusiast. The views were breathtaking! So many beautiful things to see.

Here are some extra shots of the "Adirondack Architecture"

And some "Olympic Stuff"!

And last, but not least some misc. shots!

Next up: Boys weekend for the Nascar race in Pocono, PA! Can't promise too many photos though!
