First Bus trip of 2014- Association Island, NY

It's been a while since our first bus trip to Association Island KOA near Watertown, NY.

Things got busy! I am just now sitting down to give you the details.

However, we had a GREAT TIME! But as always, on May 24 weekend, it was cold and windy. But, we made the best of it, had a few drinks and sat around the campfire.

The drive to Watertown is not bad-- about 4 hours. The 1000 islands is beautiful! (We have plans to go there later on in the summer).

We arrived late Friday afternoon. The campground itself is on an island. Some interesting roads leading to a causeway out to Association Island.

When we booked the site, they asked us if we wanted "sunrise" or "sunset". We chose "sunset" - party because we did not plan to be up at sunrise! The island is on Lake Ontario just west of where the lake meets the St. Lawrence River (and where the 1000 islands start). It is WINDY!

We ate inside, and hovered-- but it was too windy even for a fire. An early night! The next morning, we decided to look at the other part of the campground.

It was just as beautiful, and not so windy-- so we moved. It was easy for us in the bus-- we had not put down our awning or brought anything out the night before. Our new site was awesome!

We were close to the water to fish, to collect shells and throw stones. We were also close to one of the clubhouses where the kids could play pingpong, and go to the park.

We enjoyed the sunshine, some refuge for the wind and just relaxed! We had an awesome campfire and made smores.

We visited a nearby state park-- took a walk and found some beautiful cliffs! The scenery was gorgeous, and it was nice to get out in the Tracker with the roof off!

The sunset was beautiful. You would never know we were on the sunset side!

We had an amazing time-- and would probably go back here! They have a pool and a marina, but because it was opening weekend, it wasn't open. :(

Our next trip (sadly) is not on the bus-- but we have 3 more trips planned for the summer in the bus. Stay tuned!
